Ryan currently offers 8 courses on the application and administration of Canadian sales taxes at the Ryan Training Centre in Mississauga. Due to the popularity of these courses, selected sessions are also offered in Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver. The courses are renowned for their focus on timely, relevant issues that tax, finance and accounting professionals can act on right away. All are taught by senior Ryan experts; recognized as the top tax minds in the country. The comprehensive manuals provided during the sessions act as valuable desk references.
Courses are a half-day in length. Fees are $350 per course, though active Ryan clients are able to attend these comprehensive training courses at no cost. Each course is worth 3 professional credits (hours) for CAs, CMAs and CGAs.
They are designed to be attended by tax professionals or senior accounting staff – e.g., CFOs, Controllers, Assistant Controllers and Accounting Managers. The issues covered are not generally suitable for purchasing personnel or payables clerks. Attendees are restricted to individuals employed in industry or the MUSH sector (municipalities, universities & colleges, school boards and hospitals).

Value-Added Taxation in Canada GST, HST and QST
A summary of the most important issues posed by Canada’s value-added taxes, this course reviews which taxes to charge and under what circumstances, documentation requirements, common pitfalls when claiming input tax credits, and unique aspects of the Quebec Sales Tax.
Value-Added Taxation in Canada: Advanced Topics
This newly developed course has been designed to aid our clients in understanding some of the more complicated aspects of Canadian value-added taxes, including the place of supply rules for intangible personal property, transportation services and real property, as well as the GST/HST rules for pension plans. In addition, a comprehensive review of the GST/HST and QST issues that often complicate cross-border transactions will be included in this session, with an emphasis placed on the rules for imports, exports and drop-shipments. Please note that we recommend that clients complete the Value-Added Taxation in Canada: GST/HST and QST course prior to attending this course.
Value-Added Taxation in the European Union
This new course has been designed to assist our clients in understanding the basic mechanics of European Union value-added taxes (EU VAT). Topics include how EU VAT works, when to register for EU VAT, and the recovery of EU VAT by North American organizations. Throughout the presentation, a discussion of the major rule differences among various EU member states, as well as between EU VAT and Canadian GST will be highlighted. In addition, several provisions that non-resident organizations may find beneficial will be reviewed, with an emphasis on the reverse charge mechanism and the possible deferment of import VAT. This seminar will be presented by representatives from Ryan’s offices in the Netherlands and United Kingdom.
